It's Saturday evening and there's a fun buzz as people stream into the Fine Arts Theatre in Beverly Hills. Laughter and hugs punctuate the atmosphere as people stand in line to get their tickets and movie-watching goodies before heading into the theatre for the final screening of the SPIRITUAL WARRIORS movie at the Fine Arts. Michael Hall, the theatre's founder and owner, is on hand to assist and receive thanks from all of us. Zoë Golightly, our sprightly screening coordinator, is standing by graciously welcoming VIPs and all who come. Jeeni Lawrence beams her smile from the tee shirt and book table. Joan Mary Grus and Pryor Nunn take tickets.

Jsu Garcia soon arrives to greet in his playful way all who have come to celebrate this 30th screening of SPIRITUAL WARRIORS at the Fine Arts AND the closing of the Fine Arts Theatre under the ownership of Michael Hall. I spot some of Spiritual Warriors stars and production crew in the crowd: Leigh Taylor-Young, Sally Kirkland, Danny Hayes, Rick Ojeda. There are quite a few attending who have never seen the movie before and are very excited for their first viewing. Jsu announces that the group can take their seats early and listen to the beautiful singing and playing of Sarah Jayne, a talented friend of Jsu.
As the lobby empties, I run in to grab a seat in the back. Jsu welcomes the good-sized group and spontaneously takes a poll of how many times people have seen SPIRITUAL WARRIORS. The numbers range from never to over 20...and yes, I'm in the latter category. Jsu then introduces the short movie that will be playing first: ‘Who Are You?’ is about a man who has overdosed on drugs and experiences going to perhaps a waiting room in heaven to look in a deeper way at who he is and his choices. Wow, that's a powerful warm-up!
Then as the Gilgamesh sign appears on the screen, I take a moment to ask inwardly the Traveler to bring the perfect guidance for me for tonight as I watch this movie. As I watch the opening credits and see the first John-Roger quote, I'm aware that even after more than 20 viewings this movie is continually new for me, as if there is an inner movie or seminar that happens as I watch the screen. I'm spell-bound yet again for the whole movie.
As the lights come up, Jsu invites Leigh, Sally, and Rick up to the stage-front to take some Q&A with him. Questions such as, "Why did you make this film?", "What did you experience as you made/acted in the film?", etc, were asked from the audience. The responses from each of the spontaneously assembled panel expanded our experience of what went into the making of the movie even more. As a perfect touch, Jsu invited everyone to go out into the theatre lobby for a bit of cake that had been provided as a thank you and celebration for the great support that Michael Hall and his Fine Arts Theatre has brought to SPIRITUAL WARRIORS. As I made my way through the excited crowd there were many happy faces consuming the yummy cake and chatting eagerly about the movie. Many best wishes to Michael Hall and his next endeavors, and continued Light and Love to the successful screenings of SPIRITUAL WARRIORS that are scheduled for this summer and fall.
